LOST star JOSH HOLLOWAY is being tipped to star in the next X-MEN movie as fan favourite GAMBIT. Holloway, who plays SAWYER on the hit TV show, was set to star as Gambit in X-MEN: THE LAST STAND but pulled out because of TV commitments. But it's reported the model/actor will star in the next installment, which will not feature many of the film's original stars, including HUGH JACKMAN, SIR IAN MCKELLEN and HALLE BERRY. The film's producer LAUREN SCHULER DONNER tells Moviehole, "Remember in Lost? There was a guy in there that was the perfect Gambit, the guy with the straight hair, good-looking, the bad boy… Sawyer. "The reason we didn't use Gambit was because in a sense his persona is a bit like WOLVERINE in that he's got attitude and his power is not quite as exciting as the others. "That's why we went to NIGHTCRAWLER on 2 because he looked different than everybody else and he had a great power. So yes, I think we would weave Gambit within our story, (but) it wouldn't be The Gambit Movie". Gambit possesses the ability to charge objects with energy, causing them to explode.

What? There's so many things I disagree with in this article.

Maybe. Are you as indignant as I am? Those powers are not boring. Or, are you excited? Cos I guess I am. I just - this article is WTF-worthy. Lots of information, not very coherent.

And a while back, JH himself said that he didn't take the position, because Gambit's personality was a bit like Sawyer's, and he didn't want to be seen as a character actor. He said that it was his choice, not anything to do with the current staff of the X-Men movies or the casting directives. *shrug*

Hee, I'm totally both! As you can see by reading my latest journal post. Does the article mean he's reconsidering, or do you think it's just a rumor based on out-of-context comments by Shuler-Donner?

I think it's a bit of both. I know he considered it for the third movie, but turned it down to avoid being type-cast, and because of Lost.

WTF? Boring powers?

And an X-Men movie without Wolverine and Gambit both in it makes me sad. :/ ...though considering I've yet to watch the 3rd I guess I can't say much. Still!

I know! Boring powers? Blowing shit up and stabbing people is boring? I think the movies without one or both of them would be boring, too. Besides having almost nothing to look at, these movies are about characters we've followed over from the comics. We love them. We'll miss them if they aren't in the movie. No matter how badly they are done, if they're in the movie at least we can go, "At least they tried to get the character. I mean, I know it shouldn't be that hard, because it's just reading the comics and lifting the character out of the pages. Maybe that's difficult for some people." *sigh*

The third movie is much, much better than the second one, if that's any hope. Except for when the movie sucks. But it still doesn't suck as much as the second one sucked! Honest. And it doesn have Angel in it!

Yeah. [livejournal.com profile] stonedtodeath has a pretty good conversation going about it. Some people are even suggesting that JC be Gambit.

I nearly giggled until I puked. You and me? We are going to scour various pretty, lanky model-actors until we find someone that screams "Gambit!!!" and then we make them do a Cajun accent. And then? We tie a bow on them, and deliver them to those Hollywood types.
